Printing directly on wood, plywood and MDF

A UV printer prints straight onto wood, plywood and MDF. The ink cures on the surface under UV light, so the board does not need a coating to hold the image.

Print, then route

A printed board can be cut to shape on a TPS X3 or X7 with a router module: the 1000 W module is rated for MDF, chipboard and plywood, the 1800 W module for solid wood and high-density MDF. Signs and displays: print and cut

Questions

What printer prints on wood?

A UV flatbed or a hybrid. Ours are the JHF F3900 and F5900 flatbeds and the M3300 hybrid.

How thick can the board be?

Up to 4.7 in (120 mm) on the flatbeds, up to 2 in (50 mm) on the M3300.

Does wood need a primer?

Wood is not on the LIPLA Primer list; the primer is made for glass, metal, acrylic and plastics.
